Your Blue Badge is the property of Essex County Council. If it is misused then Essex County Council can take it away. Read the Rights and Responsibilities booklet sent with your Blue Badge to ensure you know how and when you can use your badge.
Important things to remember:
- You must be a passenger or driver of the vehicle at all times when a Blue Badge is displayed
- Do not let someone else use your badge to get free or better parking
- Carers cannot use the badge even when carrying out business on your behalf
- Do not use your badge when it is out of date
- Do not use your badge when the information on it is wrong or illegible
- Do not reproduce or allow anyone to reproduce your badge
- Misuse of a Blue Badge by you or another person is a criminal offence, which can carry a fine of up to £1000 and the immediate withdrawal of the badge
Reporting Misuse of a Blue Badge
Reports of suspected misuse should be made in writing, via post or email, to Essex County Council at the address below, where appropriate action will be taken.

- The Blue Badge number
- Name of the person the Blue Badge was issued to
- Vehicle registration of the vehicle using the Blue Badge
- Circumstances of suspected misuse
- Date suspected misuse took place
- Your name and contact telephone number – although you can remain anonymous
