Age

Equality legislation on Age was implemented in October 2006, covering age discrimination in employment and vocational training. The Equality Act replaced the previous equality legislation on age on 1 October 2010.

To support the phasing out of automatic retirement at 65, the council no longer has a retirement age for any of its employees.

Essex County Council is currently in the process of forming a Network Group to provide information and support to anyone who has concerns relating to their age.

The council involves older people in the service development. The Older People’s Planning group enables older people and relevant organisations to work in partnership with Essex County Council, share information and take an active part in the planning of services for older people in Essex. Five meetings are held annually. New members are always welcome.
