ACL Essex rated ‘Good’

A groups of students are taught cooking skills by tutors in an ACL kitchen.

Ofsted has awarded our adult education provider, ACL Essex, ‘Good’ in all areas.

During their inspection, Ofsted observed several lessons at ACL Essex centres. It determined the curriculum meets the needs of the local community. It also confirmed that tutors build knowledge and skills using a range of effective teaching strategies.

ACL Essex was last inspected in 2018 when it was also rated ‘Good’.

Councillor Tony Ball, Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, said: “Post-pandemic, ACL Essex has adapted its services. They have created hybrid classrooms and a new digital hub for learners. Learners enjoy the same access to technology and the best possible learning experience.

“It’s great that ACL Essex employees are being recognised for all their hard work.”

Ofsted stated that leaders and managers support employees with professional development. They also plan opportunities and help tutors to keep their skills up to date.

Lisa Jarentowski, ACL Essex Principal, said: “We’re delighted to gain a ‘Good’ grade from Ofsted. We want everyone to feel they can reach their career goals. We’re always looking to develop our employees, and now Ofsted has recognised this.

“It’s an amazing achievement. I’m so proud of all our employees and learners.”

The Ofsted report identified areas that ACL Essex could work on. However, it said leaders understand the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation. They also saw that leaders are already making improvements in some of these areas.
