What service is being provided?

Trading Standards is responsible for ensuring businesses understand their legal obligations and trade fairly and safely.

 

Our work includes licencing, fraud prevention, detection and prosecution, and Consultancy

 

We deliver services, regulate or contribute in some way to a number of priority areas including, but not limited to:

 

  • Animal health and welfare, contingency planning and disease prevention and control
  • Business advice and support consultancy services including a dedicated business advice line, Primary Authority Partnerships, metrology and laboratory services
  • Implementation of No Cold Calling Zones
  • Buy With Confidence (BWC) approved trader scheme regional hub
  • Food authenticity, composition and safety
  • Feed safety and hygiene
  • Licensing - petroleum, explosives, massage and performing animals
  • Product safety including electrical goods; toys and cosmetics with a focus on control at point of entry into the UK
  • Safety of sports grounds
  • Fair trading including doorstep crime; consumer and business mass marketing scams; pricing; distance selling and misleading offers

Offences (including alleged offences) and criminal proceedings outcomes and sentences

Physical and Mental Health information

 

Who will be using your personal data?

The Data Controller is Essex County Council

What will it be used for and what gives us the right to ask for it and use it?

Service delivery

Service planning and improvement.

The prevention and detection of crime\fraud

Research (using anonymised data only unless we specifically request your consent to use identifiable personal data)

 

If we cannot use your data we would not be able to deliver Trading Standards services to the residents of Essex.

How long will your data be kept?

We will stop using your data after 6 years

Your data will be securely deleted one year after we stop using it.
