What service is being provided?

Adult Community Learning is the biggest provider of adult learning courses in Essex.  We offer a wide range of day time and evening adult learning courses to help Essex residents improve their job prospects, learn new skills or simply inspire them.

What personal data do we need from you?

  • Name and contact details
  • Date of Birth
  • Employment and educational details
  • Visual images, personal appearance and behaviour
  • Lifestyle and social circumstances
  • Student and pupil records and financial details

What ‘special types’ of personal data do we need from you?

  • Physical and mental health details
  • Racial or ethnic origin

Who will be using your personal data?

The Data Controller is Essex County Council. The Data Protection Officer for Essex County Council can be contacted at dpo@essex.gov.uk

TERMS, Pro suite of software, PICS, MyConcern, Learning Assistant, TextMarketer, Cardexchange, Moodle and Infinity are Data Processors supporting this purpose through technology. 

What will it be used for and what gives us the right to ask for it and use it?

  • Providing your service
  • Planning and improving your service
  • Providing you with information about our courses
  • The prevention and detection of crime and fraud
  • Research using anonymised data only – if we need to use your personal data for research we will ask your permission

If we cannot use your data we would be unable to deliver our educational services.

Our legal basis for using your personal data is Consent, under contract and under a legal obligation to provide education.

As our legal basis is consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

Our legal basis for using your special personal data is substantial public interest.

  • Ofsted
  • Student Loan Company
  • Third Party that ACL contract to obtain education and employment related outcomes. In the event of a safeguarding concern we may have to share with a third party. 

Will your data be stored in or accessible from countries with no UK-equivalent Privacy Law protections?

How long will your data be kept?

We will stop using your data after 5 years for data not required by the European Skills Fund which requires us to retain data for 30 years.

Your data will be deleted immediately after we stop using it.
