Name and surname

Age, marital status, rank or profession

Residence at the time of the marriage



Information about each party's father:

Name, surname and rank or profession



Information about your witnesses:

Name and surname

The Data Controller is Essex County Council

The General Register Office and Stopford (as a supplier of our systems) are Data Processors supporting this purpose


What will it be used for and what gives us the right to ask for it and use it?

To maintain a register of marriages

Service delivery

Planning and improving registration services

Preventing or detecting of fraud or crime

Research using anonymised personal data.  If we wish to use your identifiable personal data we will seek your permission.


If we cannot use your data ECC would be unable to meet our statutory duties

S53 Marriage Act 1949

Regulation 12 Registration of Marriage Regulations 2015

Department for Work and Pensions (For change in circumstances for widows only)

Police (Only for the purposes of preventing or detecting crime or fraud)

Family Operations Hub and Essex Social Care Direct (For safeguarding purposes)

Home Office (For immigration and enforcement purposes)


Will your data be stored in or accessible from countries with no UK-equivalent Privacy Law protections?



How long will your data be kept?

Your data is kept indefinitely on the register.
