Information about school places for September 2019

The information below is for parents of children due to start secondary school (Year 7) or primary school (Reception) in the school year starting from September 2019. It is also for parents of children in an infant school who have a child due to transfer to Year 3 of a junior school in September 2019.

Key things you need to know about applying for a school place

It is the responsibility of parents to apply for a school place at the correct times. You will not receive any letters from Essex County Council to inform you that you must apply for your child’s school place. 
 

If your child is due to start school for the first time in Reception during the school year 2019/2020, or is in an infant school and due to start in Year 3 at a junior school from September 2019, here are some dates you need to know:


  • From 12 November 2018 you can apply online for your child’s primary school place.
  • You must submit an application by the national closing date 15 January 2019. Applications received after this date will be considered as late and you may reduce your chance of being offered a place at your preferred schools. 


If your child is due to start secondary school for the first time from September 2019 here are some dates you need to know:


  • From 12 September 2018 you can apply online for your child’s Year 7 secondary school place.
  • You must submit an application by the national closing date 31 October 2018. Applications received after this date will be considered as late and you may reduce your chance of being offered a place at your preferred school.
