Hadleigh Old Fire Station is offering visitors the chance to meet local artists and experience the creative work that happens at the site this Bank Holiday Weekend.
Supported by Essex County Council's 'Culture in Essex' small grant scheme, a variety of events are set to take place, including a pop-up cinema, community choir, and artist-led workshops, as well as jazz and local history sessions.
The Culture in Essex grant supports arts and cultural activity across the county, with the aim of positively engaging and benefiting local people.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday, there will be the opportunity to take part in a circus skills workshops for children aged 3 -11, followed by a pop-up cinema in the evening. All the activities are free and open to all ages.
Cllr Sue Lissimore, ECC Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities, said: “Art brings communities and cultures together in new and exciting ways. The events happening this weekend are a great way to learn new things and feel inspired while enjoying this great setting.
“Open Studios will allow visitors to see work created by the fire station's resident artists and allow them to take part in artist-led workshops and taster sessions exploring different media.
“I'm pleased we have been able to support such an exciting weekend of events and would encourage everyone to head over and get involved."
The artist's work will be on display throughout the weekend and local people will have the chance to get in touch with their creative side by helping to produce an artist-led community art installation. There will also be live music, stalls, a bouncy castle.
Sue Willis, Hadleigh Old Fire Station artist/studio holder and Event Director said: “Hadleigh Old Fire Station has become a real community hub and our open weekend is a great opportunity to showcase all the fantastic things that happen here. We're hoping to inspire everyone to get involved in something and there's definitely plenty going on."
