Information about our citizenship ceremonies

Group ceremonies

Face to face Citizenship ceremonies take place at the Council Chamber in County Hall in Chelmsford.

There are no fees for attending a group ceremony.

Details such as the date, time and location of your ceremony will be sent to you soon by post or email after you receive your letter of approval from the Home Office.

The ceremony includes the Citizenship oath and pledge. You are not required to learn the oath or any other text for this ceremony.

If your children under 18 have also been accepted for Citizenship they do not need to attend the ceremony. Adult family members can take the Citizenship oath on their behalf. For children who are attending as guests, please note that we do not allow children under the age of 5 into the Council Chamber to watch the ceremony.

You will need your letter of invitation from the Home Office and some identification. This could be a passport, driving licence or Home Office document.
