Loan sharks are illegal moneylenders that often charge very high interest rates.

Essex credit unions
Credit unions are community co-operatives that provide savings and loans to their members. They can help you save regularly and borrow responsibly. Visit Find Your Credit Union to search for one near you.
Energy bills
The Essex Energy Switch is a collective scheme that negotiates cheaper deals from energy suppliers. You can sign up for free and are under no obligation to switch supplier.
Housing related advice
Essex Floating Support gives housing related support, including how to:
- maintain your tenancy and prevent homelessness
- budget your money
- manage debt
- claim welfare benefits
