“Being fostered changed my life”

“Being fostered changed my life”

Kerry was just 13 when she was taken into care after her mother, who had mental issues, was unable to look after her, or her younger brother. She missed out on a big part of her childhood caring for her brother and her life could have had a very different life if it hadn’t been for the foster carers she was placed with.

Now married and with a new baby of her own, she is urging people to think seriously about becoming a foster carer, so that more young people can be helped in the way she was. She says the love and care she received from her foster parents helped to turn her life around.

Kerry says: “I didn’t really have a childhood with my own mum, but I did with my foster parents. They were just so loving, and they treated me no different from their own daughter.

She adds: “Being fostered changed my life. I thank my foster parents from the bottom of my heart because I know if I hadn’t lived with them my life would have been so different.”

“So many children need foster carers like I did, so please come forward and help change a young person’s life.”

This year, up to 500 children are expected to come into our care and we need your help. Our existing foster carers come from lots of different backgrounds and we need new carers on a full and part-time basis for either short or long-term placements.

In return, we provide training and a competitive financial package. If you think you could make a difference to a child’s life, call 0800 801 530, or visit www.essexadoptionandfostering.co.uk/fostering
