Every Family Matters - Let’s talk online safety with The 2 Johns
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant people have been spending more time online than ever. Individuals have had to adapt to working from home and staying in touch with family and friends through video calls or social media, as well as relying more on internet shopping and streaming TV and films.
While most people know how to navigate the online world safely, for children and young people, there can be lots of unknowns, particularly around social media and they might be unknowingly putting themselves at risk.
Being online gives potential perpetrators anonymity and child exploitation can take place in many forms. It is important that parents, carers, children and young people themselves know the signs they might be in danger and the actions they can take to avoid it.
We asked parents and carers in Essex for any questions or concerns they had around how to keep their child safe online and put them to local experts, The 2 Johns, retired police detectives who now deliver bespoke child exploitation training to professionals, parents and children.
The 2 Johns have answered these questions as part of a series of videos that we are sharing across our social media platforms. The first of which – ‘How to set-up a safe TikTok account for your child’ - is below.
