Winners of ECC's Octopus Ahoy! prize draw are revealed

Residents have secured vouchers to spend in their local high streets as part of our Octopus Ahoy! prize draw. For the Tendring trail we sponsored the ‘Out of this World’ themed Alien octopus in Jaywick Sands. Members of the public who visited the sculpture had the chance to win a voucher worth up to £1,000 by entering the prize draw.

The winners of the prize draw are:
• Mark O’Dell, from Clacton - £1,000 voucher
• Sharlee-Lou Priestley, from Clacton - £500 voucher
• Chloe Winfield, from Weeley - £150 voucher

Each will receive One4All vouchers. These can be used in a variety of retailers, allowing shoppers to support their local high street’s post lockdown recovery.

First prize winner, Mark O’Dell, said: “This trail has been the highlight of our summer. We loved visiting Tendring and enjoyed the challenge so much as a family - our six-year-old son, Kurt, had an amazing time finding every octopus.”

All the trail’s sculptures have now been auctioned, raising over £52,000 for the Essex Community Foundation to support local causes.

At the auction Essex County Council's out of this world-themed octopus sculpture found a new home in Thorpe-le-Soken.

Dan Land, Thorpe Parish Councillor, said: “We decided to club together to get the sculpture by raising funds through social media. I want to thank the community of Thorpe for raising the money - we’re not quite sure where the octopus will be located, but it belongs to the whole village.”

Thanks to all residents and visitors who took part in exploring the trail, enjoying our beautiful Essex coastline at the same time.
