Face coverings and exemptions for health or equality reasons
Updated 19 July 2021
From 19 July, you are no longer required by law to wear face coverings. However, the government expects and recommends that you wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport.
Some transport providers and indoor venues may still require face masks. Check with the provider or venue.
If you were exempt from wearing a face covering for health or equality reasons you may wish to still show an exemption card.
Where to get an exemption card
Exemption cards are available from the following organisations:
- Hidden Disabilities
- British Lung Foundation (JPG, 150KB)
- Royal Institute for the Deaf
- Gov.uk template exemption cards
