The northbound carriageway of the A130 is set to close overnight in early January as works continue to open a third lane in both directions.
The A130 northbound carriageway between Rettendon and Howe Green will be closed from 8pm to 6am on Wednesday, 3 January and Thursday, 4 January 2018.
The closure will allow the installation of temporary barriers and a 50mph speed limit for the foreseeable future to protect the workforce. A fully signposted diversion will be in place throughout the closure.
The work is being completed at no additional cost to the taxpayer thanks to Essex County Council’s agreement with CountyRoute, which maintains the A130 on behalf of the Council.
Cllr Ian Grundy, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "I would like to thank drivers for their patience as we work to get the A130 third lane open as soon as possible in both directions.
"As someone who uses this road a lot, I know it can be frustrating seeing an empty lane coned off.
"That is why my officers and I are working closely with CountyRoute to ensure we can safely open each third lane as soon as work has completed."
Work continues on the southbound carriageway which is still on course to open later this winter, subject to any potential delays caused by severe winter weather.
Work on the northbound section is due to complete in summer 2018.
