Becoming a fostering buddy

A fostering buddy mentors new applicants. We are already seeing the positive impacts of Buddy Pairings has for new (and experienced) carers.

What's the role of a fostering buddy?

Basically, a fostering buddy is a mentor for new applicants. You coach them through the process, helping them learn more in a friendly, informal way. There will be a mix of face to face meetings and phone calls, you will speak at least twice a month.

You will support families during their assessment up to six months after their registration.

The fostering buddy scheme offers development for experienced carers too

The scheme is a chance for you to share your experience and show the difference you make. You will be paid for your time and car mileage.

As a fostering buddy you have the chance to:

  • join the professional team around new applicants
  • share your honest feedback on the scheme
  • advocate for fostering
  • attend new training opportunities to support you (as you need it)
