Becoming a fostering buddy

Experienced foster carers and supported lodgings carers have the opportunity to become a "Buddy". This offers peer support to prospective carers. You'll share knowledge with carers in assessment up to 6 months after their registration.

The Buddy Scheme has been running for over 7 months, we're already seeing the positive impact this is having!

Role of the Buddy

A buddy takes on the role of coach or mentor. You will be paid for your time and mileage too.

You will provide peer support to new applicants, helping them learn more. You will chat with the new applicant at least twice a month, a mix of face to face meetings and over the phone.

The Buddy Scheme offers experienced carers a development opportunity too

As a buddy, you will have the chance to:

  • join the professional team around new applicants
  • provide feedback on what the scheme looks like
  • advocate for fostering
  • attend training to support you in your role, as you need it
