Monthly training schedule for Supported Lodgings Carer

This page is updated monthly with upcoming training sessions for Supported Lodgings Carers.

Five courses for Supported Lodgings Carers 

We have generated an easy guide for Supported Lodgings (SL) carers to understand their pathway plan for Therapeutic and OFSTED required trainings. Below are five mandatory modules.

Safeguarding

  • E-learning: PREVENT duty training (mandatory)
  • Priority Training:
    • Protecting Children and Young People
    • Safer Caring
  • Recommended Training:
    • Understanding child exploitation, risk in the community including online harm
    • Recognising the signs of gang related culture
    • Parenting & safeguarding children and young people online

Health and Safety

  • Priority Training: First Aid – Face-to-Face
  • Recommended Training: Health and safety in the home

Supporting Young People

  • E-learning: Preparing for independence
  • Priority Training: Achieving health and wellbeing (currently being re-written, July 2025)
  • Recommended Training: Trauma informed approaches to self-harm

Child Development & Psychologically Informed Practices

  • E-learning: Child development (part 1)
  • Priority Training: Anxiety and Trauma
    • Child development (part 2) - 11 short videos via My Learning followed by Instructor Led Training (Atypical Child)
  • Recommended training:
    • Connection and loss
    • Neuroscience (you have to complete Child Development modules before you are able to book this course)
    • Neuropsychology of parenting traumatised children (you have to complete Neuroscience modules before you are able to book this course)
    • Teens, trouble and trauma
    • Reflective therapeutic parenting

Equality and Diversity

  • Recommended Training: Equality and Diversity in Foster Care

If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you are signed up to the curriculum relevant to your role. Read a guide on how to do this and how to book training (PDF, 308 KB).

Don’t forget, you must complete all training in the priority section of your curriculum before you will be able to book training in the recommended section. If recommended training is deemed essential for you to complete, your SSW should email ESCA@essex.gov.uk confirming the title of the course you should be booked on, dates of training and your full name and we can book you on.

Availability for all courses is limited, so book quickly to avoid disappointment!
