The IT Reuse for Good Charter
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has launched their IT Reuse for Good Charter as part of the Digital Inclusion Action Plan.
The charter asks businesses to help reduce e-waste. It encourages support for digital inclusion initiatives across the UK. The aim is to close the digital gap by repurposing devices for people with low income, disabilities, or older adults.
Digital Essex is encouraging Essex businesses to donate usable devices. By signing the charter, businesses can donate directly to children who need devices at home to engage fully with their education.

Donate a device
Organisations that want to donate can work with their IT contractors. This way, they can wipe and refurbish usable devices. Digital Essex, Council can then distribute these. After setting up the devices, Digital Essex can measure the social value of donations and their impact on the community.
Devices for this donation programme include:
- Laptops up to 5 Years old, preferably those of 10th generation or greater
If you’re interested in donating devices that meet our viability criteria, please email us: device.donation@essex.gov.uk
