Free business support

Backing Essex Business offers up to 12 hours of free business support covering:

  • finance and risk
  • customer interaction and identifying your market
  • managing your supply chain
  • increasing productivity and up-skilling your team
  • workplace operations

Peer networks

Group2Grow peer groups bring together cohorts of business professionals to learn, grow, and solve common problems using each other’s knowledge and experience, with the support, guidance and mentoring from a business coach.

Matching investors with entrepeneurs

Angels@Essex is an investment platform run by the University of Essex, that links angel investors to Essex based entrepreneurs with innovative ideas, allowing new disruptive technologies to flourish.

Support for women in business

  • Angels@Essex- Female Founders and Investors is a female-led network that helps female-led tech businesses to find the right investors.

  • We Are Radikl offers a fully funded 6-week online course for women on how to start up a business as well as access to an online community and one-to-one support. For more information contact

  • Ambitious Women in Essex is a network that provides opportunities and support for women throughout their careers. It is run by Essex County Council and partners such as Essex University, BEST Growth Hub, Backing Essex Business, Natwest and Anglia Ruskin University. For more information contact

Colbea offers a package of support aimed at business es across north Essex. Free support is available for business in their early stages as well as those needing digital, import and export advice.

Grow your business

The BEST Growth Hub helps Essex businesses on the path to growth and prosperity. Their team of business experts provide free and impartial business support. Part of the national network of 38 Growth Hubs, it funded by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy through the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

Support for green and low carbon businesses

The Low Carbon Across the South and East (LoCASE) programme, supported by the European Regional Development Fund, is a free business support programme in the South and East. It can help your business to become more competitive and profitable while protecting the environment and encouraging low carbon solutions.

It provides grants for businesses of up to £10,000 as well as training workshops and fully funded events. Targeted business support is on offer for companies who offer “green” or low carbon goods and services.
