Take part in an independent panel

We must consider the recommendations of an independent panel whenever we are adopting or amending our schemes.

The Council is seeking 3 people to sit on an independent panel in March 2022. The panel, made up of a total of 4 people including a chairman, will be reviewing the allowance councillors get paid.

To apply to be a member of the panel, you must:

  • live or work within the Essex area
  • be at least 18 years old
  • have an interest in the democratic process or public engagement
  • have a knowledge of local authorities and how they work
  • be available on 15 to 17 March 2022 and for limited follow up work after

Successful applicants will receive a one-off payment of £500 for taking part in the review. You will remain a member of the panel for a period of 4 years and receive the same fee for every review you take part in.

Apply online by 12 noon on Friday 4 February 2022. Due to significant interest, applicants may be interviewed before the closing date.
