Celebrating the success of the HGV Driver Training programme

We have been working with district council partners to provide free HGV driver training courses in Essex. The partnership involves Tendring District Council, Uttlesford District Council, Harlow Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The programme has funded over 50 spaces at RSM Commercial Driver Training and LGV Training Schools. It has supported individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, of the 21 who have completed their training, ten students have already secured work in the sector.

Logistics is a key sector across the UK. HGV drivers are responsible for transporting food, drink, materials, machinery and more. Despite how essential they are to the economy, there is a significant workforce gap in Essex. There are almost 900 regional HGV job postings this year alone. The HGV Driver Training programme is working to fill these gaps.
