Recycling Centre Bookings consultation

A resident and recycling centre employee unload a car full of household items to be recycled.

We launched a consultation about whether to keep the booking process at all of our recycling centres permanently. The consultation ran for six weeks between 9 October and 19 November 2023.

More than 18,000 people completed the consultation and provided feedback and suggestions on our proposals. All responses will be independently reviewed.

A summary report of the consultation feedback will be published alongside a final evaluation. This will be used alongside other supporting evidence to inform any future decision about recycling centre bookings.

Councillor Peter Schwier, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling said:

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation. We received a huge amount of responses which highlights the valuable role of recycling centres in our waste and recycling services.”

The booking process will remain in place at all 21 Essex recycling centres until a final decision is made in 2024.
