Ribbon cut on new Essex community equipment contract

A large group of people gathered around a balloon archway, with a ribbon being cut.

We have marked the launch of the new Essex Integrated Community Equipment Loan Service (ICELS).

Medequip is the provider of the Essex ICELS. The company announced the grand opening of its new Essex site at a special open day on Wednesday 25 October.

We celebrated the launch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the project team. Representatives from Thurrock Council, NHS partners and Medequip also attended.

The open day provided a unique opportunity to see first-hand how the service operates. Community equipment includes items such as commodes, shower chairs and hoists. The service includes the supply, installation, repair, collection, and recycling of community equipment. A health or social care professional prescribes the equipment.

Councillor John Spence, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and ICS Integration, said:

Essex County Council’s new community equipment service provides what our residents have been asking for – good equipment, swiftly and efficiently delivered and with a full recycling opportunity.

We will measure success both by the amount of equipment used and by the satisfaction of those who use it.
