Brentwood garden village gets green light

The foreground of the image shows, on the right, a woman holding hands with a child while strolling alongside a dog, while on the left, another woman pedals a bike with a child seated on the back. They are both on a light brown pathway. In the background, there’s people playing in the grass, while a small family of four enjoys a picnic. All of this is set against a backdrop of trees, blue sky, and housing.

We’ve welcomed the approval of a new development in Brentwood which will boost infrastructure and job opportunities.

Brentwood Borough Council has given the go ahead to Dunton Hills Garden Village. This will feature 3,700 homes, community and sports facilities, and four schools.

The development, by Commercial Estates Group (CEG), will also have 55,000 sq metres of land for business use. Three neighbourhood centres will also provide local job opportunities.

Dunton Hills aims to meet a range of local community needs. Around a third of the new properties are expected to be affordable housing.

We support Local Plan led growth in Essex, and Garden Communities built to be sustainable and high design standards.

We’ll work alongside Brentwood Borough Council and CEG to make sure Dunton Hills meets the needs of the community. This includes:

  • environmental needs, such as sustainable homes which are cheaper to run
  • economic needs, such as employment opportunities
  • social needs, such as amenities which create opportunities for social interaction and recreation
  • provides sustainable transport choices

Councillor Lee Scott, Cabinet Member for Planning a Growing Economy, said:

We expect and require high standards in Garden Communities, and are pleased that Brentwood Council has approved in principle the Dunton Hills Garden Village.

The Garden Village will not only address the current and future needs of residents, but will set the standard for collaborative efforts in creating sustainable, inclusive housing developments in the future.
