As part of the Building a Lasting Legacy programme, 61 year 9 students from three Chelmsford schools took part in site visits in May. The initiative, in partnership with Morgan Sindall and the Greater Essex Careers Hub, aims to inspire young people to explore careers in construction.

Students visited key local projects:

  • Sandon School toured the Mitie site at Great Waltham Primary School, where a new sustainable classroom is being built.
  • Hylands School visited the Morgan Sindall site at Broomfield Hospital to learn about construction in healthcare.
  • The Boswells School explored two major infrastructure projects: the upcoming Beaulieu Park Station and the Chelmsford North East Bypass (Section 1A), led by J. Murphy and Sons and Octavius Infrastructure

Students toured the sites and spoke with professionals working in the industry. They learned about different roles and career paths in construction.

Councillor Tony Ball, Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, said:

“Building a Lasting Legacy is a fantastic initiative that will open doors for many young people in Essex. Students who may never have considered a career in construction now have the chance to explore the industry and gain valuable skills for their future.”

“I thank all the businesses and schools who have supported this programme."
