New councillor elected to Essex County Council in by-election

David Loxton has been elected to Essex County Council in a by-election for the Chelmsford Central division.

The by-election was called following the resignation of Liberal Democrat Essex County Councillor Marie Goldman.

The results were as follows with a turnout of 29.52%:

  • Ronnie Bartlett (Green Party Candidate): 196 votes
  • Darren Brooke (Reform UK - Changing Politics For Good): 869 votes
  • David Loxton (Liberal Democrats): 2,030 votes
  • Penny Richards (Labour Party): 227 votes
  • Seena Shah (The Conservative Party Candidate): 956 votes

The political make-up of Essex County Council, which comprises 75 councillors in total, stands at:

  • Conservative – 50
  • Liberal Democrat – 8
  • Labour – 6
  • Non-Aligned Group – 10
  • Independent – 1
