A statement from the Leader of Essex County Council on the attack on Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester:
Councillor Kevin Bentley, Leader of Essex County Council, said: “I was deeply shocked by the horrific events at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester this morning (Thursday 2 October) on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured in this vile and unprovoked attack.
"I am grateful to the police for their presence through additional patrols and resources around synagogues across Essex, so those worshiping can feel safe to do so.”
