Essex Housing has begun work on a new modern housing development in Waltham Abbey.

Two new buildings featuring 26 modern apartments are being built on the site, in Shernbroke Road. The former hostel building has been demolished.

Planning permission was granted for the development in March 2022.

Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, said: "I’m delighted that Essex Housing have reached this key milestone to deliver this scheme and look forward to seeing it progress in the coming months.

“This site is a perfect example of how Essex Housing is striving to deliver new homes that our county so desperately needs, as well as shaping great places for our residents to live.”

Essex Housing is our housing development arm. The Shernbroke Road development is part of its 1,010 programme of new homes. Of these, 48% are either specialist or affordable housing to help older people and people with disabilities to live independently.
