Post-16 options

30 August 2017

It’s a legal requirement that young people in Year 11 stay in learning until the end of the academic year they turn 17. If they leave Year 11 in 2014 or beyond they'll be required to stay in learning until their 18th birthday.

Staying in learning can mean:

  • remaining in full-time education
  • joining an apprenticeship
  • working with training
  • volunteering with training
  • being self-employed with training

If you’re in Year 11 it’s important to find out as much as possible about your options and the help that’s available to you.
