Level 4: specialist intervention


Urgent concern

If a child or young person is in immediate danger, call 999.

If the child you are concerned about is at risk of immediate harm, call 0345 603 7627 and ask for the priority line. This number is open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5:30pm, and Fridays 9am to 4:30pm.

For out of hours or bank holidays, call the Emergency Duty Team on 0345 606 1212.

This level of support is for children or young people where it is believed or suspected they are likely to be suffering from significant harm, family breakdown or where statutory intervention may be required.

This might include children or young people:

  • suffering significant harm from abuse or neglect
  • who have significant impairment of function or learning or life-limiting illness
  • whose parents and wider family are unable to care for them
  • involved in crime or the misuse of drugs at a significant level
  • who are being exploited
