Our Cabinet has agreed to increase the capacity at the new special school that will be built in Rayleigh and South Woodham Ferrers. This means it will be able to welcome a further 62 pupils when it opens, increasing the original number from 190 to 252 places in total.
The school will be split across two sites but work as an all-through school. KS1 and KS2 will be based at a site on the Wolsey Park development in Rayleigh. KS3 and KS4 capacity will be delivered from the former site of Chetwood Primary School in South Woodham Ferrers.
The decision to increase capacity was made during our Cabinet meeting today (Thursday 26 June). Read the full Cabinet paper for more information.
The original decision to open a special school was taken in May 2024. The project is the result of increased population growth in the south Essex area.
A planning application to build the KS1 and KS2 school on the Wolsey Park development has now been submitted.
