This National Numeracy Day (Wednesday 22 May) as part of the Essex Year of Numbers campaign we’re launching the Everyday Magic of Numbers series. The series is a collection of videos from key community members, sharing how they use numbers in their everyday life. Kicking off the series is musician, poet, writer and educator, Christian Foley, with an exciting look at how numbers are used by writers and rappers.

In the first video, Christian says:

You may think that writing has absolutely nothing to do with maths. Well, you’d be wrong! Even if we look at the greatest writers of our generation, they are not just literary figures. William Shakespeare used maths all the time.”

Heather, a keeper at Colchester Zoo will also feature as part of the series, giving an interesting look into the daily role of a zoo keeper and how numbers are used frequently in looking after their amazing animals.

We’ll be sharing a new video every two weeks across on our social media channels. Read more about the Everyday Magic of Numbers series
