Coronavirus (COVID-19): schools and learning

Primary and secondary schools are closed. All schools will provide remote learning.

Face-to-face learning in schools remains in place for:

  • children of critical workers and vulnerable children
  • nurseries and early years
  • special, alternative provision and hospital schools

School attendance and absence

Taking holidays in term time

You must get permission from the headteacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time.

The headteacher will authorise absence if there are exceptional circumstances. If your request is approved, the headteacher will decide how many days your child can be away from school.

You could be fined for taking your child out of school during term time without the school’s permission.
