What councillors do
County councillors are elected across Essex every four years. They each represent an area, known as a Division.
Councillors meet to decide on how county-wide services like roads, transport, social care and libraries are delivered in Essex.
Their work normally involves:
- attending council meetings and committees
- making decisions about county-wide services
- raising issues on behalf of their residents
- working with other organisations to improve council services
