New homes completed in Waltham Abbey

A development of 26 affordable and specialist homes in Waltham Abbey is now complete.

The Shernbroke Way development features two apartment blocks. Across these, there are 10 homes for adults with disabilities and 16 affordable homes.

The scheme is a result of a partnership between Essex Housing, our in-house developer, and Chelmer Housing Partnership (CHP).

Work began in August 2022 on the site. The site was home to a former hostel.

CHP will be managing the scheme going forwards. We will have “nominations rights” for the 10 apartments for adults with learning disabilities. This will help house those most in need of this type of accommodation.

Councillor Lee Scott, Cabinet Member for Planning a Growing Economy, said:

The Shernbroke scheme is a great example of how through Essex Housing, we can turn land and buildings no longer needed into new homes and community assets across Essex.

I am delighted to mark this important milestone today as we are now ready to start welcoming residents into these much-needed new homes in Waltham Abbey.
